Electroplated zinc nickel - Galvano Hengelo

Electroplated zinc nickel (zinc-nickel alloy)

Electroplated zinc nickel (zinc-nickel alloy) gives very good corrosion protection on steel. That is why Galvano Hengelo has included a zinc-nickel process in its product range and we use the complete protection system under the name Protalloy®.

Areas of applications can mainly be found in hydraulics (manifolds / steering valves / cylinders), machine and equipment manufacturing, energy technology, automotive etc. Where conventional zinc / zinc iron systems and / or electroless Nickel systems are not good enough in terms of corrosion resistance, Protalloy® becomes an interesting alternative. For example in conditions with high humidity and humidity- salt load and / or temperature fluctuations. The so called “high zinc-nickel alloy” is passivated (Cr6-free) and available with an optional topcoat.

Protalloy® achieves an extremely high corrosion resistance of at least 1,000 hours protection against base metal corrosion in a neutral salt spray test! Due to the very small layer thickness (min. 5 microns) the influence on critical dimensions is very limited.

Zinc-nickel forms a “white film” during a salt spray test, the so-called “white haze”, this film stays stable for a very long time (up to many thousands of hours of NSS). This is also one of the important advantages compared to electroplated zinc, because less (voluminous) corrosion products are formed and the corrosion process is therefore considerably slower.
